After an indefinite hiatus in 2005, where Takara suspended the Beyblade toyline, Beyblade is set to return this August with an anime, manga and video game for the Nintendo DS following in 2009. Takara-Tomy (Takara merged with Tomy in 2006) is currently aiming for 20 billion yen (approximately $200 million USD) in yearly revenue by next year. This new generation of Beyblades name has been translated as Metal Fight Beyblade (MFB) and on August 9th, 2008 will be released to the public.

To celebrate the release of Metal Fight Beyblade, TAKARA-TOMY hosted two events on July 12th, 2008 and July 21st, 2008, under the name of "METAL FIGHT BEYBLADE BIRTH FESTIVAL". They are also continuing to hold various events, with the last one taking place on August 10th, 2008.

Components of MFBs

Components of MFB
MFB Chart

There are four parts that make up a Metal Fight Beyblade:

  • Face: Hexagonal screw-like piece that fastens the Beyblade together, similar to Bit Protector from the HMS. They feature graffiti-style illustrations on the top (i.e. Bull, Pegasus, etc).
  • Wheel: Main source of attack from a Beyblade; unlike HMS, the Wheel is completely made out of metal to compensate for the lack of a Weight Disk. They use various shaped protrusions to lower the spin velocity of an opponent. The Wheel is fundamentally the same as the Attack Ring from the HMS and plastic Beyblades.
  • Track: Taking a step backwards, MFB has separated the spin direction part from the bottom, thus turning it into two pieces again (as it was in the plastic generation). The height and spin direction of a Beyblade can be changed with this. Similar to Spin Gear from plastic Beyblades.
  • Bottom: The bottom of the Beyblade. It has interchangeable tips which the Beyblade spins on. Movement patterns can be altered with the differently shaped tips that can be used. It is similar to the Blade Base from plastic Beyblades or the Running Core from HMS.

Types

There is four different types of MFBs:

These can be easily compared to the types of the plastic generation, the only difference being that survival/endurance is being called stamina.

Size Difference

Metal Fight Beyblade's will be smaller than plastic generation Beyblades, and about the same size as those of the HMS series.

Shooter

The shooters in Metal Fight Beyblade do not have multi-directional capabilities, as was possible with the Dual Shooter in HMS. Of the pictures released so far, it seems as if they have reverted to the plastic generation style of winder. Grip design is very similar to the HMS Customize Grip.

Beypointer

The Beypointer can be attached to the shooter, and it is used to keep track of your wins, losses, and points. Every beyblader begins with 1000 points. After each battle, the two players connect their Beypointers and each will lose/gain 10 points depending on if they won or lost. It is unclear how TAKARA-TOMY will prevent cheating using these because you could easily purchase two of them and connect them to get an infinite amount of points. The Beypointer will not have much use outside of Japan however because the WBBA (World Beyblade Battle Association) is only active in Japan at the moment.

Stadiums

Four stadiums has been revealed so far, “Attack”, “Balance” and “Stamina”, as well as a red stadium that comes with the Beybattle Try Set; the first three are comparable to HMS stadiums, except for the fact that instead of a circular centre, it has a hexagonal shape just as the Face does.

WBBA

The WBBA (World Beyblade Battle Association) is an association being run by TAKARA-TOMY to promote Metal Fight Beyblade, by holding tournaments and giving away prizes to Beybladers who achieve a certain amount of points using the Beypointer.
