==Spin Velocity Overview==

In Beyblade, the term '''spin velocity''' is usually used to refer to the Beyblade's RPM (Revolutions Per Minute). More accurately, though, it is used to refer to the Beyblade's ability to sustain this spin velocity over the course of the battle.

==The Advantages of High Spin Velocity==

Generally speaking, it is advantageous for all Beyblades to have the highest spin velocity possible. It increases every aspect of performance:

* '''[[Attack]]:''' A faster spinning Beyblade will inflict more damage on contact.
* '''[[Defense]]:''' A faster spinning Beyblade will hold its ground more effectively when struck by the opposing Beyblade.
* '''[[Survival]]:''' A faster spinning Beyblade will deflect opposing attacks with more ease, and be able to retain its spin more effectively.

Beyblades with high spin velocity also have much better balance.

==How High Spin Velocity is Achieved==

The best way to achieve high spin velocity is to have a small (that is, small in diameter) and heavy Beyblade, with most of the weight focused at the center. The best way to achieve a high spin velocity is with a [[compact]] customization.

==The Trade-offs of High Spin Velocity==

Considering the advantages, one could conclude that it would be advantageous for all Beyblades to be designed with high spin velocity as the top priority. This is not the case.

Because of the parts required to effectively maximize spin velocity, many customizations cannot be built under the guidelines. Most [[Survival]]-type customizations could benefit from high spin velocity, but the trade-off of parts is not worth the gain. Beyblades that utilize [[Smash Attack]] will not be able to move as quickly due to all of the weight focused towards the center. It is these sorts of limitations that prevent the advantages of high spin velocity from being too overwhelming.

__TOC__
==Overview of the Heavy Metal System==

[[Image:Hms.jpg|thumb|An overview of the HMS Beyblade, [[Dragoon MS]].]]

The [[Heavy Metal System]] (usually referred to as '''HMS''') is the most recently released [[:Category:Systems|Beyblade system]]. What is so important to know about HMS is that it breaks compatibility completely with all previous systems; meaning, you can't interchange parts from HMS with previous systems. After the advent of HMS, all previous Beyblade systems can be referred to under the moniker "[[Plastic Beyblade|plastic Beyblades]]". HMS Beyblades can only use parts from other HMS Beyblades.

==Components of an HMS Beyblade==

There are four parts to an HMS Beyblade:

* '''Bit Protector (BP):''' In the case of [[Plastic Beyblade|plastic Beyblades]], the Bit Chip was an essentially meaningless part in most cases. In HMS, the Bit Protector is vital; it is the "screw" that holds the entire Beyblade together, and is also the part of the Beyblade that the shooter latches onto.

* '''Attack Ring (AR):''' In HMS, the AR's functions remain fundamentally the same. However, there is one change that is perhaps the most important part of HMS: rather than being made purely out of plastic, it is made of two parts: the [[metal frame]] and the [[ABS caul]]. This addition of metal to the AR is one of the fundamental improvements that HMS has over plastic Beyblades.

* '''Weight Disk (WD):''' The circular form WD proved to be very effective in plastic Beyblades. In the case of HMS, all WDs were made circular. The standard weight disks are [[Circle Heavy]], [[Circle Balance]], and [[Circle Wide]]. There are also [[Customize Weight Disk|Customize Weight Disks]] (CWD), which are also circular, but contain room for a plastic that significantly alters the performance of the WD.

* '''Running Core (RC):''' HMS consolidated the Spin Gear and the Blade Base into a single part: the Running Core. The AR and WD slide over it, and the BP locks everything together. While the original RCs released were quite basic, some of the later models, such as [[Samurai Changer MS]]'s Battle Change Core allow for many gimmicks and customization.

==Size and Weight Difference==

[[Image:Hmssize.jpg|thumb|A size comparison between [[Gaia Dragoon MS]] and [[Dragoon GT]].]]

HMS Beyblades are much smaller than Beyblades from previous systems; generally, their size is about 75% of their predecessors. Despite this loss in size, their weight remains about the same due to the addition of metal to the AR.

This decrease in size is completely advantageous. Smaller, more compact Beyblades will have better balance and retain their [[spin velocity]] more effectively. The only disadvantage is a lower attack range, but this difference is meaningless considering the superior strength of HMS.

==The Dual Shooter and G-Winder==

[[Image:Dualshooter.jpg|thumb|The [[Dual Shooter]].]]

Because HMS are fastened tightly by the Bit Protector, they will hold together regardless of the spin direction. The Bit Protector is completely symmetrical. The standard shooter for HMS, the [[Dual Shooter]], has two holes to insert the winder: one for left spin and one for right spin. Because of this, the spin direction of HMS can be changed at will, with no need to change any Beyblade part or the shooter.

The new winder, the [[G-Winder]], was an improvement in every way. Unlike the previous systems, which had both normal "short" winders and [[Dragon Winder|Dragon Winders]], all G-Winders are the same length. They are made of a very stiff plastic that is easier to straighten, and the plastic is much more solid, rendering it difficult to break. The combination of the Dual Shooter and G-Winder makes for a pleasant experience.

===Complaints about Dual Shooter Fit===

Many players complain that the quality of [[Dual Shooter|Dual Shooters]] is inconsistent, with many being useless due to the fact that the Beyblade will not fasten securely to it. This has been proven to be true. While most Dual Shooters are made in China, the models made in Japan have been known to be of much higher quality.

==Increase in Revolutions==

The newly designed Beyblades and shooters lead to a 1.5-2x increase in the maximum [[spin velocity]] of these Beyblades Vs. older systems. This is an undeniable advantage, increasing performance in just about every area imaginable.

==The Change of Gameplay==

While HMS are not compatible with previous generations, in terms of competitive battling they are considered completely legal within the same playing field. When HMS was first released, some plastic Beyblades were still able to defeat them with reasonable consistency. However, as more were released, plastic Beyblades became more obsolete. [[Wolborg MS]] was the final "nail in the coffin", making plastic [[Zombie]] Beyblades obsolete.

==Reaction from Players==

Most players greeted the HMS series with reverence. The consensus was that the [[Engine Gear System]] was quite disappointing, and that HMS was was a move in the right direction. Players were excited about the faster, harder battles and the more effective and efficient designs of the Beyblades, shooters and winders.

However, there were -- and continue to be -- valid complaints about HMS. The most common one appears to be the complaint that HMS is inferior due to its lack of customization options. Indeed, there were far less HMS Beyblades released than plastic Beyblades, and there are far less parts involved compared to the [[6-Layer]] system. The counter-argument to this is that because there are fewer parts involved, HMS battles involve more skill and strategy and do not rely on simple configuration options as much.

There is also debate as to whether or not it is fair for plastic Beyblades to fight Vs. HMS Beyblades. Officially, there is no argument to be had; it is completely legal. However, players can (and should) retain the right to decide amongst each other for recreational purposes. Most players will not fight an HMS against a plastic.

==Conclusion==

Despite criticism, there is one thing that is a fact: in terms of performance, HMS are far superior to every preceding system in every single way. For competitive play where all Beyblades are allowed, they are the best choice.

In Beyblade, the term [[spin velocity]] is usually used to refer to the Beyblade's RPM (Revolutions Per Minute).

* '''Attack:''' A faster spinning Beyblade will inflict more damage on contact.
* '''Defense:''' A faster spinning Beyblade will hold its ground more effectively when struck by the opposing Beyblade.
* '''Survival:''' A faster spinning Beyblade will deflect opposing attacks with more ease, and be able to retain its spin more effectively.

==The Trade-offs of High Spin Velocity==

__TOC__
== Name Changes ==
Death Gargoyle MS was released by Hasbro as Dark Effigy MS

== Bit Protector (BP): Gargoyle Emblem ==
The Bit Protector of this Beyblade is Gargoyle Emblem. It is the first mould version of Bit Protectors.

== Attack Ring (AR): Circle Upper ==

* '''Weight:''' 20 grams

The Attack Ring of [[Death Gargoyle MS]] is Circle Upper. This was the first major upper attack AR to be produced, and immediately dominated tournaments. This AR is larger than most HMS ARs; this is a good point. Such a wide AR has very good attack range; it's hard to avoid being hit by it. The Metal Frame is almost a perfectly circle, and surrounds the entire outer rim of the AR. A circular-shaped AR has a tendency for good [[defense]]. Also, having all the weight focused to the outer rim helps the momentum, increasing its early defensive capabilities even more.

However, the most important point of this AR is its [[upper attack]]. Just by examining the slope (which is roughly a 35 degree angle), we can easily tell that it has a lot of lifting power. The large rim leading up to it makes it easier to catch the opponent. You can [[upper attack|upper-KO]] your opponent very easily; It's hard to escape this AR's [[upper attack]]. In left spin, this AR has two kinds of attack: [[smash attack]] and [[force smash]]. There are notches at the highest point of the [[upper attack]] slopes that will allow for smash attack. The end of the reverse side of the [[upper attack]] slopes has a very steep [[force smash]] slope. So far, we've concluded that this AR has wide attack range, good defense, upper attack, smash attack, and [[force smash attack]].

=== Mould Differences ===
The balance of this AR varies. You see, there are two molds of this AR; old mold (original and ACT2 versions) and the new mold (ACT3 version). You can see the comparison of these two below. The red Circle Upper is the old mold from ACT2. The light blue Circle Upper is the new mold from ACT3.

Old mold Circle Upper has more [[survival]]. New mold Circle Upper has its own special use, with its "wobbling tendency." You can build a [[Wobbler]] combo with this AR. It is important to consider the usefulness of the new mold. [[Wobbling smash attack]] is very strong.

=== Use in [[Smash Attack]] Combos ===
Here is a basic use of an upper attack combo using Circle Upper.

* '''AR:''' Circle Upper ([[Death Gargoyle MS]])
* '''WD:''' [[Circle Wide]]
* '''RC:''' Grip Flat Core [[Dragoon MS]]

== Weight Disk (WD): Circle Heavy ==

See [[Circle Heavy]].

== Running Core (RC): Metal Change Core ==

* '''Weight:''' 3 grams

The Running Core of [[Death Gargoyle MS]] is Metal Change Core. This tip is built on a special type of angle. When the Beyblade is standing up straight, it rests on the sharp part of the tip and is in survival mode. Survival mode can spin for a very long time (over four minutes). When it is put onto an angle, it is in attack mode. Its movement speed in attack mode is very fast; the same as Metal Flat Core ([[Advance Striker]]). Also, this core is very short; the same height as Flat Core ([[Gaia Dragoon MS]]). This makes it very easy to use [[upper attack]].

There are many ways to shoot this Beyblade. Into attack mode, into survival mode, survival to attack...you should experiment different ways. One of the best ways to use this tip is with [[Sliding Shoot]]. This works great against [[Survival]]-type Beyblades. [[Death Gargoyle MS]] will zoom around the stadium, striking through the center every time. This will hit [[Survival]]-type Beyblades hard. Also, movement speed in this form is between attack mode and survival mode. It is balanced out. It will have good attack and survival at once.

== Overall ==
[[Death Gargoyle MS]] was the first HMS Beyblade to be released with an AR focused entirely on [[upper attack]]. To this day, [[Death Gargoyle MS]] continues to be one of the strongest Beyblades ever made. Its AR has fine use for attack customizations. Its RC is good for [[Balance]]-types and [[Compact|Compacts]]. Also, this Beyblade is great for training shooting techniques. All Beybladers have to have this Beyblade. It will be enjoyed by any kind of player.

After the advent of HMS, all previous Beyblade systems can be referred to under the moniker "plastic Beyblades". HMS Beyblades can only use parts from other HMS Beyblades.

==Components of an HMS Beyblade==

There are four parts to an HMS Beyblade:

* '''Bit Protector (BP):''' In the case of plastic Beyblades, the Bit Chip was an essentially meaningless part in most cases.

==Size and Weight Difference==

==The Dual Shooter and G-Winder==

===Complaints about Dual Shooter Fit===

==Increase in Revolutions==

The newly designed Beyblades and shooters lead to a 1.5-2x increase in the maximum [[spin velocity]] of these Beyblades Vs. older systems. This is an undeniable advantage, increasing performance in just about every area imaginable.

==The Change of Gameplay==

==Reaction from Players==

==Conclusion==

Despite criticism, there is one thing that is a fact: in terms of performance, HMS are far superior to every preceding system in every single way. For competitive play where all Beyblades are allowed, they are the best choice.

==Size and Weight Difference==

==The Dual Shooter and G-Winder==

===Complaints about Dual Shooter Fit===

==Increase in Revolutions==

The newly designed Beyblades and shooters lead to a 1.5-2x increase in the maximum [[spin velocity]] of these Beyblades Vs. older systems. This is an undeniable advantage, increasing performance in just about every area imaginable.

==The Change of Gameplay==

==Reaction from Players==

==Conclusion==

Despite criticism, there is one thing that is a fact: in terms of performance, HMS are far superior to every preceding system in every single way. For competitive play where all Beyblades are allowed, they are the best choice.

After the advent of HMS, all previous Beyblade systems can be referred to under the moniker "plastic Beyblades". HMS Beyblades can only use parts from other HMS Beyblades.

==Components of an HMS Beyblade==

There are four parts to an HMS Beyblade:

* '''Bit Protector (BP):''' In the case of plastic Beyblades, the Bit Chip was an essentially meaningless part in most cases.

After the advent of HMS, all previous Beyblade systems can be referred to under the moniker "plastic Beyblades". HMS Beyblades can only use parts from other HMS Beyblades.

==Components of an HMS Beyblade==

There are four parts to an HMS Beyblade:

* '''Bit Protector (BP):''' In the case of plastic Beyblades, the [[Bit Chip]] was an essentially meaningless part in most cases.

There are also [[Customize Weight Disks]] (CWD), which are also circular, but contain room for a plastic that significantly alters the performance of the WD.

== Name Variation ==

[[Hasbro]] released this product under the name [[Bearing Stinger]].

== Attack Ring (AR): Scissor Cutter ==

* '''Weight:''' 5 grams

The AR of [[Metal Dragoon Bearing Stinger]], Scissor Cutter, is thin and light with decent balance. However, this AR is outperformed by countless other ARs. There is no reason to use Scissor Cutter in your Beyblade.

== Weight Disk (WD): Heavy ==

See [[Heavy (WD)]].

== Blade Base (BB): Bearing Base ==

* '''Weight:''' 8 grams

Bearing Base is the important part of this Beyblade. The tip of the Bearing Base is [[free-spinning]]. Because of this, when the Beyblade is hit by an opposing Beyblade, it absorbs much of the damage and does not lose spin as easily. The shaft of Bearing Base is held in place by two [[bearings]] (one of the two is plastic, but it can be replaced by NSK [[Bearings|bearing]]), an attribute shared only with [[Burning Kerberus]] and [[Takara]]'s [[Zeus]]. Because of these double [[bearings]], Bearing Base can regain its balance quickly after being hit. The tip of this shaft is very sharp and made of a plastic that has low friction when compared to other tips. It is one of the best tips for [[survival]] Beyblades.

=== Mold Variations ===

[[Hasbro]]'s Bearing Base has a slight but important difference. The tip of the Beyblade is slightly sharper and made out of a harder plastic, resulting in more [[survival]] potential, but substantially less [[defense]] potential.

=== Using Bearing Base Shaft in Other Blade Bases ===

An important trick to learn using the Bearing Base is that the shaft can be removed and put into the casing of [[Wolborg]]'s shaft. This will allow you to use Bearing Stinger's tip in [[5-layer]] combos, which affords you the advantage of using a left spin direction with this tip, along with using [[Wolborg 2]]'s BB. This can even be extended into making [[6-Layer]] combos, as the SG of [[Wolborg]] can be placed in [[Dragoon V2]]'s BB. Using this method, you can use Bearing Base's tip in conjunction with SP.

=== Use in [[Zombie|Zombies]] ===

Bearing Base was the only BB choice for first generation [[Zombie|Zombies]]. It was effective for [[survival]], spin-stealing, and life after death. Even after the first generation, the shaft of Bearing Base could still be used in [[5-layer]] and [[6-layer]] [[Zombie]] combos.

==== Use in First Generation [[Zombie|Zombies]] ====

Before the release of [[Wolborg]], the only BB available for players wanting to use a [[Zombie]] strategy -- or create any meaningful [[survival]] type -- was Bearing Base. The problem was that since this Beyblade did not use an SG, it was difficult to change its spin direction. However, using the AR of [[Roller Defenser]] in a certain fashion, players were able to change spin direction.

An example combo would be:

* '''AR:''' Roller Defense Ring ([[Roller Defenser]])
* '''WD:''' [[Wide Survivor]]
* '''BB:''' Bearing Base ([[Metal Dragoon Bearing Stinger]])

==== Use in Second Generation [[Zombie|Zombies]] ====

After the release of [[Wolborg]] and [[Wolborg 2]], players had considerably more options when it came to building [[Zombie|Zombies]]. However, Bearing Base's tip was still a strong choice. Neither [[Wolborg]] nor [[Wolborg 2]]'s tips provide the same pure [[survival]] potential. Luckily, the casing for [[Wolborg]]'s shaft allowed the Bearing Base shaft to be exchanged with it. Unfortunately, the ability to use two bearings is lost.

An example combo would be:

* '''AR:''' Tiger Defense ([[Driger S]])
* '''WD:''' [[Wide Survivor]]
* '''SG:''' [[Left SG]] (Bearing Version) ([[Wolborg]])
* '''Shaft:''' Bearing Base ([[Metal Dragoon Bearing Stinger]])
* '''BB:''' Defense Grip Base 2

==== Use in Third Generation [[Zombie|Zombies]] ====

Even during the [[6-layer]] generation, Bearing Base's shaft could still be used to strong results. The trick is similar to second generation [[Zombie|Zombies]].

An example combo would be:

* '''AR:''' Twin Horn ([[Gabriel]] <nowiki>[</nowiki>[[Takara]] Version])
* '''WD:''' [[Wide Survivor]]
* '''SG:''' [[Left SG]] (Bearing Version) ([[Wolborg]])
* '''Shaft:''' Bearing Base ([[Metal Dragoon Bearing Stinger]])
* '''SP:''' Defense Ring ([[Voltaic Ape]])
* '''BB:''' Customize Grip Base ([[Dragoon V2]])

== Other Versions ==

* [[Bearing Stinger]] - [[Phantom Force]] Version

== Overall ==

[[Metal Dragoon Bearing Stinger]] is one of the most useful Beyblades released, mostly due to its BB and shaft. Unfortunately, it is also one of the oldest and rarest. Although the [[Phantom Force]] release alleviated this temporarily, it has now gone back to being practically impossible to track down. It is a shame, because it is also a Beyblade that ever player should own. '''Every player should own multiples of this Beyblade.'''
== Attack Ring (AR): Wing Cross ==

* '''Weight:''' 5 grams

Wing Cross is a strong AR because of its extremely evenly distributed weight, thin size, and smooth edges. It was previously commonly used among [[zombies]]/[[spin-stealers]] before becoming outclassed by other ARs, such as [[Galeon]]'s War Lion or [[Driger S]]'s Tiger Defense. Despite this, Wing Cross did not become obsolete.

[[Bistool]]'s Wing Cross stayed popular in the [[10bBistool]] combo, and also in some [[compact]] combos. This AR has many uses in [[balance]] and [[survival]] type combos.

=== Use in First Generation [[Zombies]] ===

Wing Cross was used as an AR in [[first generation]] [[zombies]] (that is, before the [[S Series]] was released). It was used because of its balanced weight distribution, thin design, and because its projections (the attack spikes protruding from the AR) could be used to [[steal spin]], as they extended just beyond the reach of the [[Wide Survivor]] WD.

=== IMPORTANT: Mold Variations ===

The mold variation of the Wing Cross AR is what makes it such a popular choice. While the [[Takara]] version of [[Bistool]], Gekiryu-oh and [[Ultimate Frostic Dranzer]], along with the [[Hasbro]] versions of Gekiryu-oh [[Ultimate Frostic Dranzer]] have thin spikes, the ends of [[Hasbro]] [[Bistool]]'s spikes have been connected to the center of the AR, supposedly to prevent breaking. Because of this, [[Bistool]]'s AR has become a far more popular choice than Ultimate Frostic Dranzer's and Gekiryu-oh's.

If you wish to see combinations using [[Bistool]]'s Wing Cross, please see the [[Bistool]] article.
* [[Ultimate Frostic Dranzer]]

== Overall ==

This Beyblade was very useful at one point, but after [[Hasbro]]'s [[Bistool]] was released, there simply was not much of a use for it. Indeed, the only unique part of [[Ultimate Frostic Dranzer]]/Gekiryu-oh/[[Bistool]] is the Wing Cross AR, and the [[Hasbro]] [[Bistool]] version is stronger, both in terms of durability and use during battle. Because of this, there is almost no reason to buy Gekiryu-oh. You should buy [[Hasbro]] [[Bistool]] instead.
__TOC__
== Attack Ring (AR): Max Shield ==

* '''Weight:''' 5 grams

The AR of [[Draciel Metal Ball Defenser]] has four almost straight edged panels around it. Because of this, it it not ideal for [[defense]] due to the amount of friction given off from the straight edged panels when spinning.

== Weight Disk (WD): Heavy ==

See [[Heavy (WD)]].

== Blade Base (BB): Metal Ball Base ==

* '''Weight of BB Only:''' 9 grams
* '''Weight of BB with 1 set of [[metal balls]] (Original Weight):''' 11 grams
* '''Weight of BB with 2 sets of [[metal balls]]:''' 13 grams

Metal Ball Base is the most valuable part in this Beyblade. It has the screw-in base from the 4-layer system which gives the impression of it being out of date, but it is still a good [[defense]] type base in due to the additional weight that can be added to it. MBD comes with one set of [[metal balls]] that go inside of the BB.

When spinning rapidly, the [[metal balls]] in MBD's base roll up the ramps inside to a position closer to the outside of the blade. This gives a higher center of gravity and increased stability, due to a more uniform distribution of overall weight. As the blade slows down, the force of gravity overcomes the centrifugal force and the [[metal balls]] roll back down the ramps towards the center of the blade. This hampers balance and stability, but increases spin time. The concept is to essentially remain motionless (in the lateral plane) for the first half of the battle, and then outlast the opponent's blade near the end. However, the design is somewhat flawed, in that the ramps aren't very steep at all, so nearly any rotational motion causes the metal balls to slide up the ramps.

=== Adding Metal Balls ===

As stated before, [[Draciel Metal Ball Defenser]] comes with one set of [[metal balls]] which is commonly known as the Draciel gimmick. It is possible to add one additional set of [[metal balls]] increasing the BB weight by almost 20% more. By loosening the screw in the BB, it'll slightly loosen the opening to where the [[metal balls]] go in. When it is loose enough for the [[metal balls]] to go in, inset them in and then re-tighten the screw back.

In addition to increasing the weight of the BB, it also changes how the [[Special Parts#Metal_Balls|metal balls]] function. Instead of constantly changing between a higher spin rate to a central weight focus with only one set of [[metal balls]], it combines the two features together providing a more solid [[defense]] type base which prevents KOs.

=== Use in a [[Defense]] Customization ===

Being a Draciel Beyblade capable of holding up to two more [[metal balls]], it has the weight the advantage in a defense type combination. He is an example of a defense type combination:

* '''AR:''' War Lion ([[Galeon]])
* '''Secondary AR:''' War Lion ([[Galeon]])
* '''WD:''' [[Wide Survivor]]
* '''BB:''' Metal Ball Base (w/ 4 [[metal balls]]) ([[Draciel Metal Ball Defenser]])

The thing that makes this combination durable is how all of the parts work together in [[synergy]]. War Lion (both AR and Secondary AR) nearly aligns perfectly with the Wide Survivor WD to form a circle. Aside from that, the Secondary AR spins freely reducing the amount of force given on contact when hit. The problem with this combination is that the AR, Secondary AR, and WD together generally doesn't have good balance on its own, but the Metal Ball Base makes up for it by balancing it out by its weight and the amount of spin rate it has on its own.

=== Use in a [[Compact]] Customization ===

Compared to the updated SG Metal Ball Base ([[Draciel S]]), Metal Ball Base has one advantage over it: size. Because it is smaller in shape with an above average amount of weight, it is one of the ideal bases used for [[compact]] combinations. Here is an example:

* '''AR:''' Tiger Defenser ([[Driger S]])
* '''WD:''' [[Ten Heavy]]
* '''BB:''' Metal Ball Base (w/ 4 [[metal balls]]) ([[Draciel Metal Ball Defenser]])

== Overall ==

[[Draciel Metal Ball Defenser]] was a long overlooked Beyblade until the [[compact]] combo was realized in the international community. After this discovery, the Metal Ball Base became a popular choice not only for [[compact]] combos, but [[defense]] combos as well. For [[defense]], there may be better BBs (such as [[Draciel S]]'s SG Metal Ball Base), but the original Metal Ball Base still finds use due to its smaller size.
